American Floating Maldives – Design FLAT
The project hypothesis is done with the aspirations of what can be without constraint, as an experiment in imagination. Design think tank FLAT has shared with us their submissions to eVolo Skyscraper Competition 2010, United floating Maldives.
American Floating Maldives can be recognized still as a series of islands, but basically engineering wonders and high buoyancy. Network towers soaring up to a maximum of 1000 m above sea level and dive their keels 1000, below, to accommodate up to 56 times the floor area of the Petronas Twin Towers compound, while maintaining the density of the capital, Malé.
With an average land surface 1.5 m of sea level, the Maldives is the lowest region on the planet, with the highest point topping off at only 2.3 m above sea level. Island of Maldives’ inhabited, where only 9 of the many islands that managed to escape the flood. 57 islands faced serious damage to infrastructure, 14 must be completely evacuated and 6 have been destroyed. Besides physical damage, flooding the Maldives will also signal the elimination of the Maldivian cultural pride, as well as complete loss of his sense of self and sovereignty.
As population increases, more modules can be added to the structure, increased high tower ‘and expand the network, such as land reclamation, only 800m floating. The “inverted towers” act as a keel below the water to keep the structure upright. Around the tower is the “bowl” of which serves both as a method of floating, but as “the wall” kind, protecting the nation against the cruelty of the sea.
