Natural Clearing House of “Shadowboxx” by Kundig Olson Architects
“Shadowboxx” designed by Kundig Olson Architects. The building is located in the San Juan Islands, WA. Houses sit on a natural clearing created by strong winds which forced back the trees of the rocky bank. Building structure consists of exterior cladding is allowed to weather and rust, and shift doors, windows, walls and roof keep modulate the threshold between inside and outside, Its mass is modeled by the wind from the water. Materials with strong tactility used around the home, including crashing into the ground floor, reclaimed oak floorplanks, painted gypsum board and steel walls, the walls and roof of corrugated steel, and reclaimed scaffold boards to the ceiling.
